The Essential 100 Day 90: 1 Thessilonians 4:13-18 and 5:1-11: A Zest For Life

4 But you, brothers and sisters, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief.5 You are all children of the light and children of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness.6 So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be awake and sober.7 For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night.8 But since we belong to the day, let us be sober, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. 1 Thessalonians 5:4-8

This is my dog Zoe.  I thought of blogging about her today with this scripture because her name means zest for life.  I picked it our because I thought it was fitting.  I might just be bias, but I think she is one of the best dogs ever on the planet.  Here are some interesting things about her that go along with this scripture today.  Zoe is a child or dog of the day.  She is bright and always chipper.  When we first rescued her she was scared to death of me (still is to some degree) but has come out of her shell.  It took a good 2 years for her to even hang with my family.  She was found on a Christmas day wandering the streets looking for food.  The rescue people named her Jingles, since it was Christmas after all.  It’s just like us before we became children of the day we were looking for something.  We were looking for God.  God took us in and rescued us and now our demeanor should be bright and chipper like that of Zoe.  We should have a zest for life.  Another special thing about this little dog is I believe God has a direct connection to her and uses her when I am having a doubtful moment and need instant encouragement.  Some of you might think I am crazy, but this is the absolute truth.  This is how we should be for each other, an encouragement, not just when we are down, but all the time.  A couple a days ago I blogged about true love.  Well, one aspect of true love is encouraging each other.  As children of the day we should be passing on our bright and chipper demeanor.  You never know who may have needed that smile or encouraging word.  You may rescue someone from a bad situation without even knowing it.  Let’s have a zest for life and pass it on to others, it’s the most rewarding thing you can do.
