1 While Peter and John were speaking to the people, they were confronted by the priests, the captain of the Temple guard, and some of the Sadducees.2 These leaders were very disturbed that Peter and John were teaching the people that through Jesus there is a resurrection of the dead.3 They arrested them and, since it was already evening, put them in jail until morning.4 But many of the people who heard their message believed it, so the number of believers now totaled about 5,000 men, not counting women and children. Acts 4:1-4
I just am so amazed that the reaction to a man being healed is to arrest those who healed him. These people did not want to believe that the man was healed, they were more concerned about their religion and what the Apostles were preaching in the temple. What their attention should have been on was the fact that God healed this man who was lame for years and now he could walk straight. It makes me wonder how many small miracles we miss everyday. It’s a miracle just to be breathing, but yet sometimes we even can take that for granted. These people saw the power of the Holy Spirit performed right in front of them, yet still were angry because the Apostles were preaching resurrection. Everything that happens that does not have an explanation is a miracle. Pure and simple. God wants us to focus on His power, not rationalize or try to explain what happened. What happened was a miracle.
