30 Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.31 They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem. Luke 9:30-31
These 36 verses document some of the most awesome happenings while Jesus was on earth. First He sends out the disciples to heal and preach about the Kingdom of Heaven. Then He feeds the 5000, Peter revels that He is the Messiah, and Jesus predicts His very own demise. That brings us to these two interesting verses I never paid attention to before. On the mount of transfiguration Jesus meets with Moses and Elijah. What I found interesting is they are talking about Jesus’ departure from the world. Jesus already knows He is going to die a horrific death, so what are they taking about? I think what is happening is Jesus is being comforted by them. God sent them to give Him some comfort in knowing that He was there to be the greatest hero mankind has ever known. Then after that God Himself comes down in a cloud and announces how proud of Jesus He is. This gives us a glimpse into our exit strategy. I don’t really believe it’s will be very painful for us, I think Jesus will be there every step of the way. Regardless of how it ends one thing we should be doing and that is making our lives count to the glory of God.
