14 “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. Matthew 5:14-16
After Jesus talked about the beatitudes, He starts talking about being salt and light. The beatitudes are the basis for light living. When we are shown grace and mercy from God we are shown His great love for us. Our attitude and position in life should be that of gratitude. When you are grateful, you want to share the good news that is in your life. Sometimes life has a way of covering up our light with a bowl. Sometimes we make the choice to live a double life. We need at all times to have a gratitude attitude even if we are not at a mountain top altitude. It takes work to take the bowl off the light of our lives, but the reward is you glorifying God in all you do and say. Sure it’s hard to show light when we are hurting, but when we do, we help others to get past their hurt and so we get healed ourselves. Life is so much better when we allow the light within us to shine out to others to the ultimate glorification of the great God we serve.
