10 After that whole generation had been gathered to their ancestors, another generation grew up who knew neither the Lord nor what he had done for Israel.11 Then the Israelites did evil in the eyes of the Lord and served the Baals.12 They forsook the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed and worshiped various gods of the peoples around them. They aroused the Lord’s anger. Judges 2:10-12
It’s enlightening as you read through the Old Testament, of how the Israelites would turn from God so quickly. It seems that during the times when there was no turmoil they would forget about Him. It’s a pattern we see over and over again as we go though the Bible. It’s the same for our lives, we kind of put God on the shelf when there is no trouble. When trouble comes along we are on our knees praying. This is true even for my own life. How do you forget about God? One of the ways we forget is we don’t spend time in His word and we don’t spend time in prayer. These are two things that if we did everyday, we would obedient. We are still going to have turmoil and trials in this life. Jesus never promised a rose garden for life, but He did promise that He would never leave us or forsake us. That He would stick closer than a brother. What brings sunshine and blue skies in life is a step of obedience of just reading His Word and praying to Him daily. Then when you face storms, you know up above the clouds, it all is sunshine and blue skies.
