The Essential 100 Day 5: Gen. 11:1-9

on

6 The Lord said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them.7 Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” Genesis 11:6-7

At first these two verses were unsettling to me when I read them.  Why would God want to cause  more confusion if we were speaking one language.  I think the same thing happens when God allows situations to happen in our lives.  We all have a free will, but the choices we make can affect our future.  God did not want a human solution to the problem of sin.  In reality there really was never going to be a solution.  I think the same idea here applies.  God allows things to happen, bad things sometimes, and we rely more on Him than ourselves.  The Tower of Babel people were saying they were God. God wanted to show them who ultimately was in control of everything.  God does allow bad things to happen in our lives, not to destroy us, but to show us we need Him more than anything else in this world.
