The Essential 100 Day 97: Revelation 2 and 3:1-22: Brotherly Love
7 ”To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write:These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.8 I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.9 I will make those who are of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews though they are not, but are liars—I will make them come and fall down at your feet and acknowledge that I have loved you.10 Since you have kept my command to endure patiently, I will also keep you from the hour of trial that is going to come on the whole world to test the inhabitants of the earth. 11 I am coming soon. Hold on to what you have, so that no one will take your crown.12 The one who is victorious I will make a pillar in the temple of my God. Never again will they leave it. I will write on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God; and I will also write on them my new name.13 Whoever has ears, let them hear what the Spirit says to the churches. Revelation 2:7-13
Philadelphia means brotherly love. The city in Pennsylvania has always been called the city of brotherly love because of the meaning. This church that Jesus is talking about here has lived up to it’s name. The reward is an open door that no one can shut because God has opened it. I do believe when Jesus is talking about brotherly love here, He is talking about that love that is unconditional that we should have for each other. Unconditional love in action is mercy. Over the last 97 days I have written so many blogs I can’t remember if I wrote on the gift of mercy. Some people are gifted with mercy and are people that are easy to love because they love others very easily. Some people have to work on that type of love. God wants us all to be merciful and to love each other unconditionally. I am one of those who is gifted with mercy, but never really knew how to use it until the last few years. As I went through my weight loss journey I was able to learn how to better love myself first. Then as I had a healthy outlook on my own life I have this river of love flowing through me that I cannot stop. This morning as I write this I am hopefully going to meet several people for a walk/run. Because of His great love for me I have to pass that love on to others and be others focused. I do believe that if I ever tried to dam up this river I would explode inside. So, as we experience God’s love don’t allow yourself to get in the way of the river of love that you can pass on to others. Live a John 7:38 lifestyle.
